We woke up as the sun was rising over the Saratoga Passage and the Puget sound in the distance. The little sailboat that was anchored just off of our room was still there. The morning was peaceful with the sound of lapping waves.

We walked over to the spa building attached to the hotel to get breakfast. The set up was quite nice, it was buffet, with small dishes of eggs, meat, pastries and fruit as well as granola and other dishes. The chef was nearby cooking in an open kitchen and explaining the foods to us. The other folks in the restaurant when we arrived were a group of bikers who had been on an assisted bike trip in the PNW. It was their last day so they were saying goodbye to each other. We enjoyed some breakfast and coffee before heading out for our day.

We headed back to the room to put togehter the things that we would need for the day and se saw some kayakers paddle by. We noticed a storefront downtown last night where you could arrance kayak trips but we had other things planned.

We decided to drive to the farthest point on Whidbey from our hotel to start the day, Deception Pass where we wanted to see the bridge and also do some hiking. First we drover over the bridge and pulled into a parking lot to get some views from the top and underneath the bridge. The Deception Pass Bridge is one of Washington’s most iconic landmarks, linking Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands with two graceful steel spans. Completed in 1935 as part of a New Deal project, it was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Washington State Department of Highways. Rising about 180 feet above the churning waters of Deception Pass, it’s both a vital connection and one of the most photographed spots in the state.

After crossing the bridge, we decided to explore more of Deception Pass State Park, which surrounds the area on both sides of the bridge. We took the Lottie Point Loop Trail, a short, scenic walk through quiet forest that opens up to incredible views of the bridge from below.

We then walked to a smaller extension of the bridge on the other side of the parking lot for some more views of Deception pass

We then headed to the park and went out on the Lottie Point Loop trail which had some beautiful views, relatively easy footing with some branches and rocks to navigate, and a small amount of elevation change.

After the Deception Pass state park we decided to head back to Langley and the hotel. It was relatively early but we needed to get some laundry done and work on pictures and the blog. When we got back to Langley we walked into town and grabbed a late lunch at the Braeburn. There aren't a lot of restaurants in town open for lunch so we had a little bit of a wait but the sandwiches were worth the wait. The glasses in the Braeburn were beautiful blown glass from the glass shop next door so after lunch we went over to look for some glass pieces for above the counters in our kitchen. We found 2 pieces and asked to have them shipped. We then walked back down to the hotel, and grabbed some laundry. There are no laundry facilities anywhere else on the trip so we decided to clean some of our hiking clothes before we headed into Olympic tomorrow. There is a public laudromat on the edge of town and it worked fine. Conrad stayed and did the laundry and Shawn went back to the room to work on pictures and the blog.

We relaxed in the room and then called and ordered a pizza in town at the Langley Villiage Pizzeria. With so few restaurants open off season, even though we ordered ahead and went at the time they gave us, we still had to wait for a while. We took the pizza back to the room and it was delicious. We then relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the evening in our room at the Langley Inn and Spa. We are headed to Olympic National Park tomorrow morning after breakfast.
