Upon arriving to the Singapore airport we spent some time in the lounge but left a while before our flight to walk through the terminal. We were in Terminal 2 and it was beautiful and unique.

There were lots of areas with plants, a “dreamscape” where the ceiling was like a sky with clouds and planes and birds flying, and the floor had fish swimming in water underneath.

There are some areas of Singapore airport that are a tourist attraction in themselves but since we were just transiting we didn’t see them as they are outside the secure area. We will return here several times on our trip, once as an excursion from the cruise ship so more pictures later.

It was time for our flight to Bangkok so we headed to our gate. There was a screening process for bags before entering the gate area but overall it was efficient and our flight was on time and before long we landed in Bangkok. We had to go through immigration before baggage claim. It was crowded and each passenger needed to be checked, photographed, and fingerprints gathered on an electronic pad, the whole process took about an hour.

Since this is a pre-cruise portion of our trip, run by regent, there was a cruise rep who met us outside of customs and took a group of about 12 of us to a bus which transferred us to our hotel. Rio, our guide for the next 4 days was with us and talked about the city landmarks on the way. We arrived at our hotel around 1 PM but our rooms were ready and we were able to head up and get settled.

Our room is on the 18th floor ovelooking the river and the city. After all of the travel with minimal sleep we decided to take a quick nap until it was time for an early dinner. We headed down to the hotel lobby and ultimately the hotel bar which was already serving dinner at 5 PM. We chose a table by the window overlooking the river and ordered a Thai fried rice dinner, and a hamburger, both of which were excellent. You can only drink bottled water in Thailand so we needed to order that as well as make sure that we had adequate supply in our room for things like tooth brushing.

After a lovely dinner with excellent service, we had a walkaround the grounds of the hotel to familiarize ourselves. We will be here for 3 more days and have some excursions from here but also a good but if free time.

Our overall impression of the hotel - it's beautiful, centrally located with a water taxi dock right outside, the service is outstanding in every area where we encountered staff, and the rooms and public areas are immaculate. We would definitely recommend this hotel. We have an early wake up call tomorrow morning for a tour of one of Bankok's famous floating markets, and a temple so we headed to bed fairly early this evening.
