This morning they took our luggage and we departed the Avalon Expression ship as it can't go any further than Regensburg due to low water levels. Our intended excursion to the Abbey by water was also cancelled for the same reason. Instead we boarded a bus and took a tour of Passau which was a small town with a church. Our tour guide was a student in the area and she met us at the start of a rainstorm but she carried on the tour, eventually seeking shelter under an arch when it started to lighting and hail. We bout an umbrella at a second hand shop in an alley near the arch, which we didn't need for the rest of the day. We proceeded into the town center where she pointed out some interesting buildings.

We also went into St. Stephen's cathedral which was beautiful but because it was Sunday, we couldn't enter the main part of the church. Here are a few photos of the ceiling that we could see.

We went to find a cafe for lunch. There was a running race in the city center, with different age groups participating in different length races so the city was quite busy but oddly also most shops were closed. We found a little cafe that was mostly empty when we arrived but became overwhelmed with people from the ship before we had time to order. We tried some sausage dishes and watched the races go until it was time to meet to walk back to the busses. Because of the races and town being so busy we had a very long walk back to the busses and then an hour and 20 minute ride to a little tiny town called Eferding, where the new ship, the Avalon Passion was basically pulled over at a small docking area next to a field waiting for us to reboard. It was pretty much a waste of a day repositioning, but we got on board, got our luggage and unpacked into our new room. The ship was slightly newer than the old ship and some of the issues with the old room had been addressed so overall it was a slight upgrade.
Since both of us have a cold, we decided to switch our excursion for tomorrow from what was supposed to be a power walk in Melk to instead visit an abbey.
