This morning we arrived in Naples for our last full cruise day. It’s very nice to be able to go back to your room and go to sleep and wake up in a new place. No packing and unpacking, same room, same people who you already know. We kind of like this cruising thing.

We saw our room steward Sydney in the morning so we gave him a tip and thanked him very much. We also stopped by Guest services to give Niko a card and a tip. Then we headed off for our excursion.

First we went to Pompeii, the city that was destroyed by the ash from an eruption of Vesuvius. We were really surprised at the size of Pompeii as well as the size of the houses and the infrastructure that they had in the city. They had paintings and decorations on the walls, gardens, lots of shops, street signs in a way, and lots of other interesting things. Here are a few pictures.

After leaving Pompeii we headed to Mt. Vesuvius which we climbed to the top of. Here are a few pictures. We were taken by bus 1000 meters up the Mountain, and then dropped in the parking lot below where you must climb on foot. It’s another 300 meters up from the parking lot and it’s very very steep. We took our time and made it all the way to the top. The views were very pretty although there was quite a haze over the water that makes those pictures very hard to see.

When we reached the parking lot area Conrad found a drink that is called Peara that is Pear Juice which he used to have as a child in Messina. We tried it and it was as good as he remembered

When we got back tot he boat,  we had dinner with our normal dining room staff – Head waiter Doyobi, Assistant Stefan, and Wine Steward Laximan. We thanked them all and gave them a card and a nice tip. We headed back to the room to pack and enjoy our last night.
