Karongwe Day 2 - 5/30/2026

We had a couple of drives today, a morning and an afternoon one with lunch in the middle back at camp. We got awake up call early in the morning after the guides had walked through camp to make sure that there were no animals among the tents and then we could walk to the main restaurant area for breakfast.

Our morning drive was much better than yesterday, and our guide proved to be an incredible tracker, both visually and be listening to calls.

Early in the drive several vehicles saw a pride of lions and we couldn't get a great view of them but our guide and driver figured out a way to drive around to a different spot and we ended up having the pride walk right by our vehicle so close we could have reached out and touched them. The pride consisted of one male leader, a female, some young lions and 2 adolescent males.

We were looking for the big 5 animals that we hadn't seen, we had seen most but were trying to find a Cheetah and a Rino. Our guide heard cheetahs in the distance and zeroed in, directing the driver where to go until we finally found one.

We had a large outdoor buffet dinner back and camp that included Impala and other south african dishes. Our drivers and guides also joined us which was fun. We learned that they spend 3 weeks at camp, away from their homes and living onsite and then 1 week at home with their families. They were all really nice and knowledgeable.
