We headed out again from Kamloops on the same train that we had come in on. We were headed to Jasper. The scenery along the way was fairly similar and we realized that all along so far we hadn’t even been in the Rockies.
The landscape as we got closer to Kamloops got more desert like and as we headed towards Jasper we got the trees back. Most of the way we were following a branch of the Thompson River or the Fraser river so there were pretty views of that along the way.
We met a few couples along the way that we had breakfast or lunch with – Paul and Mandy from Cambridge England were right across the Aisle from us and we sat with them first. We also met a couple from Australia the Husband’s name was Glenn but we forget the wife’s name. She was afraid of heights and we joked with her about taking the Tram up Whistler Mountain in Jasper – she said that she wouldn’t go. We also met a couple From New Jersey who were very nice. Everyone was on slightly different tours and sometimes staying in the same hotels and sometimes different. We would run into them again here and there.
The train arrived in Jasper and we were boarded into busses to head to our hotels. There was some miscommunication between our travel agent and the bus company but we eventually got on the right bus and got to the Jasper Park Lodge. The lodge was really spectacular. The view of Jasper Lake was incredible. We had a room in the main lodge just off the lobby that had a view of the lake which was very nice because most of the accommodations were single rooms in cabins all spread throughout the property.
We had dinner right in the main lobby restaurant which was snacks and sandwiches. Conrad tried Poutine a Canadian dish, which he liked but I didn’t much care for. It was like someone dumped meat and gravy over soggy french fries 🙂
Off to bed because we have an early tour in the morning. Pictures will be added when I catch up with my editing.
